SPRINGS DEFENSE SEEKS MORE EVIDENCE IN MURDER CASE
The defense attorney for accused murderer Denarii Springs is seeking additional evidence ahead of his trial, including state police body-camera footage and the personnel file of the arresting Sunbury officer. Springs is accused of fatally shooting Dayveon Creel outside the Northumberland County Courthouse in August 2024. His attorney also wants prosecutors barred from presenting evidence linking Springs to an alleged gang feud. The judge will review written arguments before ruling.
POLICE SEARCH FOR ATHENS SEXUAL ASSAULT SUSPECT
Authorities in Bradford County are searching for an Athens man wanted in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a woman earlier this month. Police say 31-year-old Larry Michael Chilson Junior is charged with indecent assault and harassment and is also wanted for violating bail in a separate case involving two other women. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact the Bradford County Sheriff’s Department or Athens Township Police.
PA CAREERLINK LYCOMING COUNTY RELOCATES DOWNTOWN
PA CareerLink Lycoming County is closed this week while moving to a new downtown Williamsport location. The office is relocating to the third floor of the Horizon Federal Credit Union building at 330 Pine Street, directly across from its current site. CareerLink is expected to reopen Tuesday, July 28. Wreaths Across America’s Mobile Education Exhibit will be making stops across our area throughout this week. The free traveling exhibit shares stories of fallen service members, honors veterans and teaches visitors about the cost of freedom. It will be at the Gamble Farm Inn in Jersey Shore today from 2 to 8 p.m., then at 515 Legion Road in Muncy tomorrow from 1 to 7. Additional stops are planned through July 28. PLEA DEAL DELAYED IN MIFFLINBURG CHILD ASSAULT CASE
A plea deal for a Mifflinburg man accused of sexually assaulting a 10‑year‑old girl has been put on hold after prosecutors said the victim rejected the original offer. Union County District Attorney Brian Kerstetter told a judge Friday that more time is needed to negotiate a new agreement for 54‑year‑old Robert Coleman, who faces felony corruption of minors and indecent‑assault charges. According to the Daily Item, police say the girl reported the abuse last November, and a later interview detailed repeated inappropriate contact over several months. Coleman remains in Union County Jail on $100,000 cash bail as the case continues.
WILLIAMSPORT MAN JAILED IN MOTORCYCLE THEFT CASE
A Williamsport man is jailed on 75-thousand dollars bail after state police say he stole a motorcycle in Union County and spray-painted it black. Thirty-five-year-old Daniel Moss was allegedly captured on surveillance riding the stolen motorcycle in New Columbia. Police say they found the bike, a can of spray paint, and black paint on Moss’s hands, clothing and shoes. A preliminary hearing is scheduled July 28.
CLEANUP CONTINUES AFTER FOUR TORNADOES HIT PENNSYLVANIA
Cleanup and power restoration continues this week after severe storms spawned at least four tornadoes across Pennsylvania Saturday. The National Weather Service confirmed tornadoes in Clarion, Jefferson, Westmoreland and Clearfield counties, including an E-F-One with winds reaching 110 miles per hour. More than three-thousand P-P-L customers were without power Sunday night. Additional severe storms are possible today .
LEWISBURG TO CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS IN JULY
Downtown Lewisburg will celebrate Christmas in July this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Businesses will offer sidewalk sales and seasonal specials, along with a Hide the Nutcracker scavenger hunt. Families can enjoy a free showing of “Rudolph and Frosty’s Christmas in July” at 2 p.m. at the Campus Theatre. The celebration wraps up with a Victorian Fairy Garden Party at 7:30 p.m. on the GreenSpace Center lawn.
