ATTEMPTED HOMICIDE CHARGES FOR WILLIAMSPORT MAN
A Williamsport man will stand trial on attempted homicide and related charges after an April shooting on Green Street. Police say 22-year-old Christian Campbell was found lying in the road after officers responded to shots fired, but later learned another man had been shot inside a nearby home. Investigators say surveillance video showed Campbell firing during the confrontation. Campbell also faces aggravated assault and other charges. He remains in Lycoming County Prison without bail.
FATAL CRASH IN LIBERTY TOWNSHIP
A Lewisburg couple was killed Tuesday afternoon in a crash on Route 45 in Liberty Township. The Montour County Coroner’s Office says 75-year-old Thomas Berkheimer died at the scene, and his wife, 74-year-old Joyce Berkheimer, died later at Geisinger Medical Center. State police say their vehicle was heading east when it tried to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone and hit a Jeep Compass head-on. The Jeep then struck a third vehicle. One other driver suffered suspected minor injuries.
NATURAL GAS IMPACT FEES COME BACK TO LYCOMING COUNTY
Lycoming County and its municipalities are receiving nearly 11-million dollars from Pennsylvania’s 2025 natural gas impact fee revenue. The state Public Utility Commission says the fee generated 244-million dollars statewide last year, bringing the total collected since 2012 to more than 3.1-billion. Lycoming County received just over 4.1-million dollars, while local municipalities received nearly 6.8. Tioga County and its municipalities received about 9.45, and Sullivan County received about 1.9.
UPTOWN MUSIC COLLECTIVE ACCEPTING SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS
The Uptown Music Collective is now accepting scholarship applications for the 2026-2027 school year. The Williamsport nonprofit music school is offering 13 need- and merit-based scholarships for current students and new students enrolling this fall. Each scholarship covers one full year of music education. The Collective says no previous experience is needed to begin enrollment. Applications are due July 5th, with awards expected in mid-July. ZONING HEARING TODAY FOR POTENTIAL REENTRY CENTER
A Williamsport church could soon be converted into a transitional living center. Transitional Living Centers Incorporated is seeking zoning approval to buy the former Well Church on Grier Street and move its three local reentry facilities under one roof. The organization says the move would improve staffing, supervision and services for people returning from incarceration. Some neighbors have raised concerns, with the property located near Lose Park. A public zoning hearing is set for today at 10:30 at Trade and Transit Two.
BILL FOR BODY CAMERAS FOR PROBATION OFFICERS PASSES IN HOUSE
County probation and parole officers in Pennsylvania could soon be allowed to use body cameras. The state House passed a bill Wednesday that would add county probation and parole officers to the state’s wiretap law exceptions for body-worn cameras. Supporters say the move would improve safety, transparency and accountability during meetings with parolees and probationers. The bill passed 195 to 7 and now heads to the state Senate for consideration.
PUBLIC COMMENT SOUGHT FOR POINT TWP IMPROVEMENTS
PennDOT is inviting the public to review preliminary plans for improvements to Ridge Road in Point Township, Northumberland County. An open house is set for Tuesday, June 30th, from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Ridge Road. The project would include pavement repairs, shoulder widening, curve adjustments and other upgrades along a six-mile stretch between Route 147 and Route 11. Construction is expected to begin in 2028.
JUNETEENTH PRESENTATION IN WILLIAMSPORT
Williamsport 50501 is hosting a Juneteenth educational program tonight in downtown Williamsport. The presentation, called “Juneteenth: Explore African American History,” is 6 to 7pm at Sweetspire Coffee and Bakery on East Fourth Street. Local history teacher Ian Perry will lead the discussion on African American history and the meaning of Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day. The program is free and open to all ages.

New York City is preparing for a historic Knicks championship parade today. The NYPD says more than 10-thousand officers will be deployed along the route, with K9 units and drones also part of the security plan. The parade begins at 10 a.m. in Manhattan’s Canyon of Heroes. The Knicks won their first title in 53 years Saturday, beating the Spurs in five games.
