CHILD HIT BY CAR IN ZERBE TOWNSHIP
An 11-year-old child was struck by a vehicle on Trevorton Road in Zerbe Township. According to the News Item, emergency crews rushed to Route 225 last evening about 5:15pm and found the child in the road with serious injuries. EMTs considered the medical helicopter but ultimately transported the child by ground. State police say the SUV had front-end damage but could be driven from the scene. Troopers have not released any additional details. All crews cleared the area within about 30 minutes.
PROPOSED BUDGET INCREASE IN WILLIAMSPORT
Williamsport’s proposed 2026 budget calls for a half-mill property tax increase and now shows a $1.4 million deficit, far better than the $4.2 million gap first projected. According to the Sun Gazette, Mayor Derek Slaughter said last night that the half mill hike would generate about $413,000 in revenue, and he credited the finance staff and outside consultants for narrowing the shortfall. City Council will continue to work on the budget through December.
TALEN ENERGY HOLDS VIRTUAL TOWN HALL MEETING
Talen Energy spent much of a virtual community meeting last night discussing its interest in building data centers as it seeks to rezone about 870 acres near the Montour Power Plant. According to the Daily Item, company officials said the land, now zoned agricultural and public/semi-public, would be suited for data centers or a future power project, though farming could continue on undeveloped portions. Residents questioned water use, energy demand and non-disclosure agreements, but Talen said project specifics aren’t final and cooling needs may vary. The county Planning Commission will issue a recommendation this week, with Montour County Commissioners expected to vote next month.
SALVATION ARMY TO HOST FALL HARVEST CONCERT
Williamsport’s Salvation Army invites the public to their free Fall Harvest Concert . The event is tonight at 7 in the chapel on Market Street, and features local students from the Youth Music and Fun Program performing dance, music and drama. Leaders say the program offers free classes and instruments to kids ages 7 to 16, breaking financial barriers and helping them build confidence. After the hour-long show, the public is invited to stay for “Pie and Praise,” a fellowship with desserts and families.
TWO UNION COUNTY SEX OFFENDERS FACE NEW FELONIES
State police say two Union County sex offenders are facing new felony charges for failing to update their Megan’s Law information. Investigators say 33-year-old Ronnie Bass walked away from the White Deer Run treatment facility in Allenwood on October 21st and could not be located, violating reporting rules. Bass, previously convicted of attempted rape, is jailed on $25,000 bail. Police say 45-year-old Garan Harrington of New Columbia also missed his required October check-in despite having no emergency preventing it. He posted $10,000 bail. Both men have hearings today.
LEWISBURG MAN ARRESTED AFTER ASSAULTING OFFICER, DISTURBANCE
A Lewisburg man is facing a long list of charges after police say he trespassed on a farm in East Buffalo Township, let horses loose, and then assaulted an officer. The According to the Daily Item, 31-year-old Daniel Danowsky resisted arrest on November 9th, even after being pepper-sprayed and tased multiple times. A Buffalo Valley Regional Police corporal sustained cuts to his face in the altercation. Police say Danowsky appeared to be in a mental health crisis at the time of the incident and admitted to releasing the horses. He has not yet been arraigned.
LANDFILL JOBS, OTHER POSITIONS BEING TAKEN OFF THE BOOKS
Lycoming County Commissioners are eliminating 18 long-vacant positions, including the landfill director’s job, as part of an effort to stop financial losses at the county’s Resource Management Services department. Commissioner Marc Sortman says most of the roles have been empty for years and aren’t needed, and current operations staff and county leadership have already absorbed the director’s responsibilities. Another 35 positions across county departments may be cut next week as officials work to streamline government and reduce insurance costs tied to the number of positions on the books.
ART EXHIBITS IN WELLSBORO IN DECEMBER
The Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is opening two special December exhibits in Wellsboro. The atrium will feature “Wrapped in Tradition,” showcasing historic shrink-wrapped Christmas ornaments made famous by Wellsboro’s Corning Glass Works. The main gallery hosts the 2025 Regional Juried Exhibit, highlighting 50 works from artists across Pennsylvania and New York. Both exhibits debut with a free public reception November 22nd and remain on display through January 11th.
