TWO TEENS SHOT FRIDAY, ONE FATALLY
Two 15-year-olds were shot in separate incidents late Friday in Williamsport, one fatally. According to the Sun Gazette, police say 25-year-old Zaire Jones-Wallace is charged with attempted homicide after a fight at a home on Park Avenue. Investigators say he fired several shots, hitting a teenage boy who survived. Hours later, another 15-year-old was found shot on First Avenue and later died at UPMC Williamsport. COUPLE FACES CHILD ENDANGERMENT CHARGES FROM FILTHY HOME
A Coal Township couple is facing felony child endangerment charges after police discovered what they called “deplorable and unsafe” living conditions inside their home. According to the News Item, officers say Scott and Alyssa Dannheimer’s residence on West Arch Street was filled with animal feces, strong odors, and exposed insulation near their children’s cribs. Probation officers conducting a home check requested police assistance, leading to Scott Dannheimer’s arrest after he tried to flee. He remains jailed on $15,000 bail, while Alyssa Dannheimer also faces felony endangering the welfare of children charges.
ELECTION DAY TOMORROW
With the municipal election Tuesday, Lycoming County’s election chief says mail-in voting is going smoothly. The Sun Gazette reports that Election Director Forrest Lehman says about 5,600 ballots were sent out, with roughly half already returned. Ballots must reach the county’s Voter Services Office by 8pm tomorrow to be counted. Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. Lehman also noted ongoing accessibility upgrades at several polling sites, ensuring all 70 county locations meet compliance standards.
REGIONAL TRAINING CENTER GRANT FOR OLD LYCO TOWNSHIP
The Old Lycoming Township Volunteer Fire Company has received a $500,000 Appalachian Regional Commission grant to expand its Regional Training Center. According to North Central PA dot com , the project was matched with over $2.2 million in state and local funds, and will renovate 8,000 square feet and add 3,000 more to support live-in students and first responder training. Officials say the expansion will help address the shortage of emergency personnel across Lycoming, Clinton, and Tioga Counties and could create up to ten new jobs.
MAN CHARGED AFTER SELLING DRUGS TO INFORMANT
A Williamsport man is facing drug dealing charges after allegedly selling cocaine to a confidential informant outside a pizza restaurant in Montoursville. According to North Central PA dot com, state police say 36-year-old Devin Tyler Sunderland arranged the meeting in September and was seen getting into the informant’s car for a brief exchange. Investigators later recovered more than three grams of cocaine. Sunderland was freed on $10,000 unsecured bail and is scheduled to appear before Judge Kirsten Gardner on November 3 for a preliminary hearing.
FEDERAL PRISON TIME FOR MOUNT CARMEL POLICE OFFICERS
Three former Mount Carmel police officers are headed to federal prison for using excessive force during arrests between 2018 and 2021. U.S. Chief Judge Matthew Brann sentenced David Donkochik to seven years, Jonathan McHugh to six years, and Kyle Schauer to four years for conspiring to deprive people of their constitutional rights. Prosecutors said the officers repeatedly punched, kicked, tased, and choked arrestees, then falsified reports and charges to cover it up. Judge Brann said “good people sometimes do bad things” but stressed that citizens’ rights were violated. The men must report to prison by January 5th.
APPLICATION PERIOD OPEN FOR DCNR GRANTS FOR FIRE COMPANIES
The state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is accepting grant applications from rural volunteer fire companies to help fight wildfires. Nearly $900,000 is available through the program, with applications due online by 4 p.m. December 31 at apps.dcnr.pa.gov/grants. DCNR Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn says the grants support well-equipped and trained wildland firefighters who protect Pennsylvania’s rural communities. Fire companies can apply for up to $15,000 to buy equipment, improve training, or upgrade communication systems under the 50-50 cost-share program.
SPCA RECEIVES GRANT FOR FACILITY UPGRADES
The Lycoming County SPCA is getting a major boost thanks to a $40,000 grant from the First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania’s Williamsport/Lycoming Competitive Grant Program. The funds will cover roof repairs, heating and cooling upgrades, and new safety measures to protect both staff and animals. According to North Central PA dot com, executive director Alyssa Correll says the upgrades will keep the shelter safe, comfortable, and efficient for years to come. The SPCA has served Lycoming County for more than 130 years, providing care and protection for thousands of animals each year.

NASCAR Championship
Kyle Larson is celebrating a NASCAR Cup Series championship.  The driver of the Number-5 car finished third in the final race of the season in overtime from Phoenix Raceway to secure the title.  It’s his second-career title after winning it all in 2021.  As for the other Championship Four drivers, Denny Hamlin finished in sixth, Chase Briscoe came in 18th and William Byron ended up in 33rd.
