EXTRADICTED GEORGIA TEACHER FACES ANOTHER FELONY
A Georgia teacher jailed in Lycoming County now faces an additional felony charge. According to the Sun Gazette, 45 year-old Eric Burton, a social studies teacher from Woodstock, Georgia, was charged with obstruction of justice after twice refusing a judge’s order to provide voice samples for comparison with audio from alleged online chats with a local minor. Burton’s new charge adds to existing felony and misdemeanor counts, including photographing sexual acts of a minor and indecent exposure. He’s been held in the Lycoming County Prison since his extradition last December and remains jailed on an additional $25,000 bail pending trial.

A Duboistown man is jailed after an alleged confrontation involving a child in a Williamsport restroom. According to the Sun Gazette, police say 34-year-old Mitch Alan Logue blocked a minor from leaving a restroom on Pine Street October 5, trying to start a conversation and then telling the child, “You don’t deserve to be in this realm anymore.” A witness intervened and removed Logue from the doorway as the child ran to find family. Officers say Logue appeared intoxicated when arrested. He faces charges including assault, terroristic threats, harassment, and public drunkenness, and was jailed on $50,000 bail.
MULCH PILE ACCESS CARD CHANGES ON THE WAY
Williamsport residents who use the city’s mulch pile at 1500 West Third Street will soon need to visit a new location to get or renew their access cards. According to the Sun Gazette, the city’s Public Works Department is taking over the card system from River Valley Transit. Residents will now go next door to the Public Works building, where staff will take their photo, confirm city residency, and collect a small fee before issuing the new card. The change costs the city about $6,600 over three years, funded through the public works budget. Existing cards are still good, but will eventually expire, requiring residents to get replacements under the city’s new system.

VOTE PASSES ON REMOVING FLOURIDE FROM SUNBURY WATER
The Sunbury Municipal Authority has voted to begin the process of removing fluoride from the city’s drinking water. According to the Daily Item, the 4-3 decision came after discussion about employee safety concerns related to handling the powdered fluoride currently used in the system. Dentist Julio Lara from the Susquehanna River Valley Dental Clinic urged the board to keep fluoride, saying it helps prevent cavities, especially in children. Some board members supported switching to a liquid fluoride system, but the estimated $98,000 cost drew concern. The authority must now seek a permit modification from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection before making any change.
