MAN JAILED FOR THREATS AGAINST A LOCAL POLICE CHIEF
A Clinton County man is jailed, accused of plotting to kill a local police chief. NorthCentralPA dot com reports 45-year-old Kevin Scott Fournier of Linden allegedly made repeated threats against Pine Creek Township Police Chief David Winkleman, telling a confidential informant he wanted to “get rid of” the officer. Investigators say they uncovered social media posts, photos, weapons, and online searches showing Fournier tracked Winkleman’s movements. He’s charged with criminal solicitation to murder a law enforcement officer, terroristic threats, and firearm violations. Fournier is being held without bail awaiting an October 13th hearing.

According to the Sun Gazette, state police say 33-year-old Steven James Michael Martin had to be pulled from his locked vehicle near Pennsdale March 1st and revived with Narcan after a suspected overdose. A search of his Chevrolet Cruze turned up heroin and drug paraphernalia. Martin is charged with DUI, possession, and driving with a suspended license. He waived his preliminary hearing and is free on $2,500 bail.
CALSS ACTION SETTLEMENT POSSIBLE IN GEISINGER DATA BREACH
Patients of Geisinger Health whose personal data was exposed in 2023 may soon share in a $5 million class action settlement. A federal judge in Williamsport has given preliminary approval to the deal, which stems from a breach by former Nuance Communications employee Max Vance. Authorities say Vance, also known as Andre Burk, accessed records of more than 1.2 million patients just days after he was fired. He’s charged with illegally obtaining information from a protected computer and has pleaded not guilty. His trial is set for January 5th.
FUNDING FOR TROPICAL STORM DEBBY ON THE WAY
Pennsylvania will receive more than $14 million in new federal funding to help communities recover from Tropical Storm Debby. According to Spotlight PA, most of the money—about $11.6 million—will go to Tioga County, the area hardest hit by last August’s flooding. The rest will support housing, infrastructure, and recovery efforts in Lycoming, Potter, and Union counties. At least 70 percent of the funds are targeted for low- and moderate-income households, with housing repairs and new construction among the priorities. The state’s draft plan is open for public comment through September 30th.

During the day, the older child suffered an asthma attack, and the younger sibling went to neighbors for help. EMS responded, and the child recovered. LAST SETTLEMENT IN MOUNT CARMEL HAZING CASE
A Williamsport police officer accused of using a racial slur has settled a federal lawsuit for $135,000. Officer Brandon Wheeler and plaintiff Quincey Myers reached the agreement earlier this month over Myers’ claims of unlawful arrest, excessive force, and retaliation. According to the Sun Gazette, the incident stemmed from a December 2023 encounter outside a downtown nightclub, where Wheeler allegedly used a racial slur before arresting Myers, who was never charged. Wheeler was placed on administrative leave following the incident.
REIMBURSEMENT FO FOREST LAND OWNERS
Pennsylvania forest landowners can now apply for reimbursements of up to $25,000 through a new $5 million program to strengthen private woodlands. According to the Record Online, the Woodland Resilience Enhancement Network, launched by the state Bureau of Forestry and the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay, is the first of its kind in Pennsylvania. With more than 70 percent of the state’s forests privately owned, officials say the program will help landowners protect clean water, wildlife habitat, and guard against pests, disease, and climate change. Funding comes from the U.S. Forest Service. Get details at pa.gov/agencies/dcnr
SUPPORT FOR GRANPARENTS RAISING GRANDCHILDREN
Pennsylvania is expanding support for grandparents raising grandchildren. According to The Center Square, the Department of Aging has launched a free statewide legal helpline, offering advice and referrals to the more than 83,000 kinship caregivers caring for 26,000 children. The SeniorLAW Center will provide custody and court assistance, as well as connections to support services. Officials say the goal is to ease the legal and emotional burdens families face when grandparents unexpectedly step in due to a parent’s death, incarceration, or substance abuse.
