LOCKDOWN AT LOYALSOCK SCHOOLS
Loyalsock Township School District went into lockdown yesterday after a threatening phone call targeted a middle school employee. According to the Sun Gazette, Superintendent Gerald McLaughlin says the secondary campus followed safety protocols, moving students into shelter-in-place while Pennsylvania State Police secured the buildings. Parents were allowed to pick up students early, but buses ran on schedule. All after-school activities were canceled. Police are continuing to investigate, though details have not been released. Classes are in session as normal today.
VICTIM DIES FROM INJURIES SUSTAINED IN ARMSTRONG TOWNSHIP CRASH
The man who was critically injured in a freak crash on Route 15 in Armstrong Township Monday has died. According to the Sun Gazette, 49 year old Eric Diaz of Reading, PA, was a front-seat passenger in a southbound Mazda CX-5 when a tire from a northbound car broke loose, bounced over a Jersey wall, and struck the windshield. Diaz died Tuesday at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. The driver, 38-year-old Jessica Stebbins, and a juvenile passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries. State police continue to investigate the unusual crash.
ATTORNEY GENERAL STILL COPING WITH RANSOMWARE ATTACK
The Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office was hit with a ransomware attack earlier this month, temporarily shutting down phones, email, and internal systems. According to Spotlight PA, officials say hackers encrypted files in an attempt to force a payment, but no money has been sent. The cyberattack has delayed some court cases, with Philadelphia and federal judges postponing proceedings into September. Attorney General Dave Sunday says most staff are back online and continue to handle cases, while the FBI and other agencies investigate. The office has not said whether any sensitive information was compromised.

The Bloomsburg Fair upped its technology game this year with a brand-new mobile app. According to fair officials, visitors can download the app to access an interactive map, daily schedules, and a full vendor list ahead of the 170th annual fair, running September 19th through the 27th. The app also features a scavenger hunt with prizes for top point earners. Fair officials say all traditional favorites are back, along with new attractions like a turkey showing contest, highland cow snuggling, and a celebrity sheep show. MAN ARRESTED OVER DOMESTIC DISPUTE INVOLVING A MACHETE
A Lycoming County man is facing charges after police say he threatened a woman with a machete during a domestic dispute over missing fruit. Investigators say 39-year-old Eddie Johnson forced his way into a bedroom on Lycoming Creek Road August 23rd and threatened to cut the victim’s throat. Police say the argument started when Johnson accused the woman of taking his cantaloupe. He was later arraigned on terroristic threats, assault, and other charges, and released on $10,000 bail after waiving a preliminary hearing.
SHAMOKIN MAN ARRESTED FOR BURGLARY OF SMOKE SHOP
A Shamokin man is facing felony burglary charges after police say he broke into a Danville tobacco shop early Wednesday morning. Officers responded to a 3 a.m. alarm at the shop on Railroad Street and found a storefront window smashed. Security video showed 27-year-old Patrick Dowling entering the store and taking merchandise and lottery tickets. He was located a few hours later near East Market Street carrying two backpacks filled with stolen items. Dowling was arraigned on burglary and trespassing charges and is being held in Montour County Prison on $5,000 bail.
FINAL REPORT RELEASED ABOUT 2024 CLINTON COUNTY PLANE CRASH
Federal investigators have released their final report on the July 2024 plane crash near Lock Haven that killed 17-year-old student pilot Maisie Bitler of Williamsport. The NTSB says Bitler was attempting her second solo flight in a Cessna 172 when she made a premature turn at low speed and altitude, clipping trees before crashing in Woodward Township. The agency found no mechanical issues with the aircraft. Records show Bitler had logged just under 27 hours of flight experience, all in that model. Investigators say the crash was caused by pilot error during the traffic pattern climb.
DIGITAL TRAIL MAP NOW AVAILABLE FROM PA DCNR
Pennsylvania’s most complete digital trail map has been introduced, covering more than 1,750 miles of trails across 119 state parks. According to the Record Online, DCNR says the new data set includes detailed information on trail surfaces, widths, difficulty, and uses, and is now available through the state’s Open Data Portal and interactive maps. Officials say the project will help with outdoor recreation, land management, and even emergency response. Outdoor recreation generated $19 billion from the industry last year.
