NO RE-DRAW OF CONGRESSIONAL MAPS IN PA FOR NOW
Despite a wave of mid-decade redistricting efforts in states like Texas and California, Pennsylvania leaders say they won’t follow suit. According to a news release, Governor Shapiro has ruled out changing congressional maps before the next census. With Democrats controlling the state House and Republicans the Senate, both parties agree divided government makes new maps unlikely and experts say that balance prevents the kind of gerrymandering fights seen elsewhere. Pennsylvania’s last congressional map came after a court-ordered redraw in 2022, and the issue is expected to remain settled for now.
