WILLIAMSPORT WOMAN CAUGHT IN MIDDLE OF DRUG DEAL
A Williamsport woman is facing charges for acting as a middleman in a cocaine deal. According to North Central PA dot com, state police say 54-year-old Mary Harroum handed cocaine to a confidential informant on June 3, standing in for alleged dealer Mark Seiders. Less than a gram of the drug was confirmed by lab testing. Harroum is free on $50,000 unsecured bail. Seiders, facing four counts of cocaine sales, is expected to plead guilty in September.
FEDERAL FUNDS AT RISK AFTER PROPERTY TRANSFER STALLS
The River Valley Transit Authority says a critical $2.5 million in federal funding is at risk due to a stalled transfer of five city-owned properties. According to the Sun Gazette, authorities from RVTA say there’s been “minimal to no communication” on the deal with the Williamsport City Council for over a year. Without control of key sites like the Trade and Transit Centers and the Church Street garage, RVTA says they can’t meet federal requirements. Council President Adam Yoder says both sides still have unresolved tasks but remains hopeful the process will be finalized soon with deadlines approaching in October.
FIREFIGHTER CALENDAR IN CLINTON COUNTY
Local firefighters are invited to be a part of a new fundraiser in Clinton County. According to North Central PA dot com, Flash & Sirens Photography has announced the region’s first-ever firefighter calendar, and they will work to raise money for fire safety education and community outreach. The calendar will feature male and female firefighters from Clinton and surrounding counties in a professional, outdoor-themed photo shoot scheduled for July. REGISTRATION OPEN FOR FOOTBALL AND CHEER CAMP IN TURBOTVILLE
Registration is now open for the annual Hunter’s Heart and Hustle Football and Cheer Camp in Turbotville. According to the Daily Item, the two-day event, set for July 19 and 20 at Warrior Run High School, introduces kindergarten through sixth-grade students to football and cheerleading.The $50 registration fee includes instruction and activities, but scholarships are available for families in need. JERSEY SHORE MAN ARRESTED FOR DRUGS AFTER TRAFFIC STOP
A Jersey Shore man is facing multiple drug charges after a routine traffic stop led to a vehicle search. According to the Sun Gazette, state police say 44-year-old Jonah Lefever of 56 Drake Lane appeared nervous when pulled over for an inoperable rear light allegedly trying to hide a glass smoking device, which prompted a consensual search. Police say they recovered suspected psychedelic mushrooms, cocaine, several glass pipes, a hypodermic needle, and other drug-related items. Lefever was arraigned on multiple charges, including drug possession and driving on a suspended license.
RENOVATIONS FOR MIDDLEBURG SHERIFF’S OFFICE
Renovations are underway at the former sheriff’s office in Middleburg, as Snyder County prepares to relocate its inmate booking center. According to the Daily Item, the prison board plans to move booking operations from the old Selinsgrove prison to the first floor of the historic building next to the courthouse within a year. County authorities say the change will cut costs with $50,000 is budgeted for upgrades, including roof and HVAC work. County inmates may soon be booked just steps from the courthouse, pending final approvals.
RIGHT TO REPAIR LAW GOES TO PA HOUSE
Pennsylvania is one step closer to passing a Right to Repair law for electronics. According to a press release, House Bill 1512 cleared the House Commerce Committee today by a 15-11 bipartisan vote. The bill, sponsored by Representative Kyle Mullins of the 112th Legislative district, would give consumers access to the tools, parts, and information needed to repair devices like phones and laptops. Supporters say the measure could cut down on e-waste—the fastest-growing waste stream in the U.S. The bill now heads to the full House for consideration.
ALUMNUS CONTRIBUTION FOR LHU’S WRESTLING PROGRAM
Nearly 50 years after arriving at Lock Haven as a student-athlete, alumnus Mike Nauman is giving back in a big way. According to North Central dot com, Nauman of the Class of 1980, has established the Mike Nauman Men’s Wrestling Scholarship through an endowed gift to the Lock Haven University Foundation. His contribution, part of the $3.5 million Rise Campaign, will provide immediate and lasting support to Lock Haven’s nationally recognized wrestling program. Nauman, a former standout wrestler and now retired financial services leader, says the sport shaped his life—and he’s proud to help future Bald Eagle on and off the mat.
