ARRESTS MADE IN WILLIAMSPORT GUN SHOP BURGLARY
Two young men and three juveniles are facing serious charges after an early morning theft at the National Range & Armory in Williamsport. According to North Central PA dot com, police say Shamier Gadson and Tahir Dixon broke in through a smashed window on June 6, stealing two rifles. Surveillance video showed five suspects arriving at the shop in a gold SUV before forcing entry with a cinderblock. The group was caught hours later after crashing a stolen Kia and fleeing on foot. Gadson and Dixon, both have violent criminal histories and face multiple felony charges including burglary, theft, and conspiracy. The juveniles remain unnamed.
MONTOUR COUNTY SHERIFF PLANS TO COLLABORATE WITH ICE
The Montour County Sheriff’s Office will now collaborate with federal immigration agents under ICE’s Task Force Model. According to North Central PA dot com, it was confirmed that the agreement was approved June 12, allowing deputies to assist ICE during operations in the county — but only under federal supervision. McKenna emphasized his office hasn’t dealt much with immigration issues in the past, but hopes the new partnership clears up confusion over the county’s stance. ICE will soon provide training for deputies. Montour joins 45 agencies nationwide recently approved for the program.
GROUND BREAKING THIS WEEK FOR NEW MONTGOMERY SCHOOL BUILDING
District officials took a major step forward this week for Montgomery schools and broke ground on a long-awaited Junior/Senior High School project. The new building, decades in planning, will be built around the Montgomery Area Athletic & Community Center. Superintendent Daphne Bowers called the current facility outdated and beyond repair, saying “bandages” aren’t enough. The $57 million campus is set to open in 2027, offering modern classrooms and upgraded infrastructure. Incoming superintendent Dr. Joseph Stoudt says it’s about “laying the foundation for countless bright futures.”
SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR UMC
The Uptown Music Collective is now accepting scholarship applications for the 2025–2026 school year. According to a press release 14, full-year, need- and merit-based scholarships are available to both current and new students. The Williamsport-based nonprofit music school remains committed to offering high-quality music education regardless of financial status. MAN ARRESTED FOR SOLICITING MURDER IN BRADFORD COUNTY
A 25-year-old Meshoppen man is jailed without bail after allegedly paying an undercover trooper to commit murder. According to the Towanda Daily Review, State police say Matthew Simon Bullock met with the officer last Thursday in Wyalusing and handed over $300 as a down payment to kill a man who was reportedly dating a woman with whom he shares a child. Bullock was arrested after the meeting and later confessed to the plot. He faces a felony charge of criminal solicitation of homicide. A Bradford County judge denied bail, calling Bullock a danger to the community.
POLICE SEEK SUSPECT IN CAR FIRE
State Police say a Maserati found engulfed in flames last month in Lewis Township was stolen and intentionally set on fire. According to North Central PA dot com, Trout Run firefighters responded late May 27 to what was thought to be a brush fire near Four Mile Road and Route 15, but instead discovered the burning vehicle with no one inside. Investigators confirmed the 2015 gray Maserati Ghibli had been stolen. Anyone with information is urged to contact PSP Montoursville at 570-368-5700.
SHAMOKIN TO RENOVATE HOUSING, BUSINESS MULTI-USE COMPLEX
A major redevelopment project is coming to downtown Shamokin. According to North Central PA dot com, SEDA-COG’s Housing Development Corporation has secured $450,000 in state funds to kick off the Coal Region Innovation Builder, or CRIB. The $5 million project will transform a vacant historic building into a mixed-use hub with 11 affordable, energy-efficient housing units and a business incubator to be located along Independence Street. The funds will cover acquisition and early renovations and aims to boost economic growth while helping to ease the region’s housing crisis.
PENNDOT CLOSED FOR JUNETEENTH TODAY
All PennDOT driver’s license and photo centers, including Harrisburg’s full-service location, will be closed today in observance of Juneteenth National Freedom Day. Williamsport will also celebrate with a weekend of “Harboring Hope” events, with the rescheduled community cookout at Memorial Park tomorrow now at noon. Festivities continue Friday with a Freedom Walk, live music, and the YWCA’s Race Against Racism 5K on Saturday morning. The holiday marks June 19th , 1865, when Union troops brought news of emancipation to the last enslaved people in Galveston, Texas.
