MUNCY CREEK TOWNSHIP FIRE DESTROYS HOME
A family of three is homeless after a massive blaze destroyed their two-story home Saturday night in a remote area of Muncy Creek Township. According to the Sun Gazette, the couple and their daughter were alerted to the fire by security cameras and called 911 before the fire engulfed the house. Crews battled flames for 90 minutes, using 1,500 feet of hose and portable water tanks to reach a steep driveway. Both of the family’s dogs perished, but no humans were injured. Multiple volunteer departments responded. The cause is under investigation, and the family is staying with relatives.
FATAL TRACTOR ACCIDENT IN LINDEN
An elderly Linden man was killed Thursday afternoon in a tractor accident on his property. According to the Sun Gazette, authorities say 79-year-old William Weigle was operating a large farm tractor in a Woodward Township field when it rolled back on him after he got off the vehicle. A neighbor found him pinned, drove the tractor off, and called for help. CPR was started on scene, and he briefly had a pulse in the ambulance, but Weigle died at UPMC Williamsport from traumatic chest and abdominal injuries. No one else was involved in the incident.
BILL INTRODUCED FOR A TIER SYSTEM FOR CHILD ABUSE REGISTRY
A bipartisan plan in Harrisburg aims to make Pennsylvania’s child abuse registry more fair. According to Spotlight PA, senators Tim Kearney and Judy Ward are pushing a bill to create a tier system, so people accused of lesser offenses aren’t treated the same as those convicted of more serious infractions. Critics say the registry often punishes people without a court hearing and can cost them jobs, housing, or custody. A pending lawsuit also challenges the system, claiming it violates due process. More than 4,700 Pennsylvanians were added to the registry list last year alone.
2026 THEME FOR FARM SHOW ANNOUNCED
Pennsylvania Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding has announced the 2026 Pennsylvania Farm Show theme: “Growing a Nation,” coinciding with the America250PA celebration. Redding says Pennsylvania farmers have long fueled the nation’s growth, supplying jobs, innovation, and more than $132 billion to the state economy. The Farm Show, running January 10th through 17th in Harrisburg, will feature fan-favorites like the 1,000-pound butter sculpture, PA Preferred culinary demos, and hands-on agricultural education for more than half a million visitors.
SERIAL TRESSPASSER ARRESTED
State police say they arrested a Williamsport man who repeatedly trespassed at a hotel and restaurant complex on East Third Street in Loyalsock Township. According to the Sun Gazette, court papers allege 29-year-old Ashaune Allen returned to the property multiple times between August 1st and September 13th, despite being banned. Police say Allen posed as a guest or employee, slept in common and even private areas, and helped himself to food and toiletries worth about $200. On one occasion, he was ordered to leave the restaurant but was later found hiding in a bathroom. Allen is charged with theft and three counts of defiant trespass. He was arraigned and released on $5,000 bail.
MISSING BOY DISCOVERED IN SUSQUEHANNA RIVER
Police say the death of a missing seven-year-old boy in Scott Township appears to be accidental. According to North Central PA dot com, , Chief Joe Grassley says Aiden Ha, who was autistic and non-verbal, walked from his home Saturday morning to the nearby Susquehanna River. K-9 teams repeatedly tracked his scent to the water. On Sunday, a State Police helicopter spotted his body about half a mile downstream. The Marine Unit from Philadelphia recovered him shortly after noon. Authorities thanked the community for its support and confirmed no charges will be filed against the family.
BRICK COMPANY FIRE DEEMED ACCIDENTAL
A late-night fire at Watsontown Brick Company in Northumberland County has been ruled accidental. According to the Daily Item, Warrior Run Deputy Fire Chief Sean Funk says a piece of machinery in the grinding room caught fire due to an electrical malfunction. Firefighters quickly contained the blaze, though ventilation was challenging due to the building’s height. The fire did not spread, and no one was injured. Crews from three counties responded to the scene. The company, which produces millions of bricks annually, was expected to resume operations with minimal disruption.
CMVT WORK COULD SLOW TRAFFIC MONDAY AND TUESDAY
Maintenance on the Central Susquehanna Valley Transportation Project’s river bridge is expected to cause delays today and tomorrow in Point Township, Northumberland County, and in Union Township. According to PennDOT, the contractor will apply an epoxy overlay and seal bridge joints near the Route 15 interchange. Drivers can expect alternating lane restrictions from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., weather permitting.
