ATV CRASH CAUSES CRITICAL INJURIES
The victim of an ATV crash in Coal Township late Friday night remains in critical condition today. According to the News Item, emergency officials say Gilbert Stalkoskie was involved in the wreck that happened just after 10:30pm on the grounds of the Fairview Gun Club, when the ATV he was operating rolled and landed on top of him. Coal Township fire officials say Stalkoskie suffered severe head trauma. He was treated at the scene by EMS and then flown to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
BRUMBACH NAMED TO SUNBURY CITY COUNCIL
After weeks of deadlock, Sunbury City Council on Monday appointed James Brumbach to fill a vacant seat left by Lisa Martina, who resigned after becoming city treasurer. According to the Daily Item, Brumbach who was the only candidate not on the November ballot, was chosen after other contenders withdrew their names, saying voters should decide the seat’s future. Council members Jim Eister, Chris Brosious, and Nate Savidge voted in favor. Brumbach will serve until year’s end, while November’s election will determine the next two-year term holder.
ANTLERLESS DEER LICENSES AND PA DMAP PERMITS AVAILABLE
The third round of antlerless deer license sales began yesterday, along with the first chance to buy Deer Management Assistance Program permits. DMAP permits are $10.97 for residents and allow hunters to harvest antlerless deer on specific properties and are valid during regular seasons, plus an extended firearms season on DMAP lands from December 26th to January 24th Hunters may buy up to two permits per property and track remaining antlerless licenses online at HuntFish.PA.gov. Sales continue until allocations run out in each WMU.
ROAD CLOSURES FOR GRAND SLAM PARADE
Downtown Williamsport is ready to welcome thousands tonight for the 2025 Little League Grand Slam Parade. To keep everyone safe, several streets will be closed. According to the Williamsport Bureau of Police, starting 8 a.m., side streets between Rose and Basin along Fourth Street will close. At 1:30 p.m., West Fourth from Hepburn to Market will close, and at 4 p.m., West Fourth from Rose to Hepburn shuts down. More than 400 sections of fencing line have been placed along West Fourth Street to keep spectators, especially children, safely off the parade route.
MAN ARRESTED FOR RECORDING A WOMAN WITHOUT CONSENT
A New Columbia man is facing charges after allegedly assaulting a woman and secretly recording her. According to the Daily Item, state police in Milton say 41-year-old Matthew William Fox struck the woman several times, causing a concussion, during a February 19th argument in White Deer Township. Investigators later learned Fox had used a cellphone to record her without consent. He’s charged with felony interception of communications, simple assault, and harassment. Fox was arraigned and released with a preliminary hearing set for August 19th.
ARREST FOR TAKING ENVELOPE OF MONEY FROM PARKING LOT
A Brooklyn man is facing theft charges after allegedly taking an envelope of cash from a gas station parking lot in Kelly Township. According to North Central PA dot com, 40-year-old Cheng De Zou picked up the bank envelope containing $286 after a woman accidentally dropped it at the Wawa in Lewisburg on July 20th . Surveillance video identified Zou, and troopers traced his vehicle through its license plate. Police say his license, registration, and insurance were also suspended. Zou is charged with misdemeanor theft and traffic offenses, with a preliminary hearing set for August 28.
GRANT AWARDED TO PLUG METHANE WELLS IN PA
The Pennsylvania DEP is awarding over $7 million statewide to plug marginal conventional oil and gas wells as part of the Methane Emissions Reduction Program. According to a press release, in Potter County, three projects will receive 780 thousand dollars to plug 39 wells, while Tioga County will get twenty thousand dollars for one well-plugging project. These efforts aim to reduce methane leaks that contribute to climate change and protect local water supplies. The program is funded in part by the federal Inflation Reduction Act and supports safer communities across the state.

The site offers real-time traffic conditions, travel times, and alternate routes for key roads leading to Williamsport, including Routes 15 and 220 and Interstate 80.
