TEEN RESCUED FROM WOLF RUN AFTER JUMPING IN
There was a heavy police presence on I-180 yesterday afternoon as crews rescued a 17 -year-old girl from the water after jumping from a bridge along the interstate. According to the Sun Gazette, State police say the teen was seen running in and out of traffic around 4 p.m. near the stretch between Pennsdale and the Hughesville-Muncy exits—before leaping off a bridge into Wolf Run. Troopers and other emergency crews quickly responded and pulled her from the water. She was taken by ambulance to UPMC Williamsport for treatment and evaluation. Police have not released her identity or her motivation for running.
ROOFER FALLS FROM HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING
A roofer is in critical condition after falling three stories from the roof of Wellsboro High School Wednesday morning. According to First News Now, emergency crews responded just before 9 a.m. to the school on Nichols Street, where the man, who is a member of the Amish community, reportedly suffered a serious head injury. A medical helicopter from Guthrie Air landed on the school’s football field around 9:30 and airlifted the victim to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. Early reports suggest the roofer may not have been wearing a safety harness.
TELEHEALTH AVAILABLE FOR ADDICTION RECOVERY IN PA
In a major push to expand access to addiction treatment, Pennsylvania has issued it’s first-ever telehealth license for substance use disorder care. According to North Central PA dot com, Gateway Rehabilitation Center, which has served patients since 1972, can now offer treatment entirely online through its “Hope From Home” platform. State officials say the move eliminates barriers like transportation and childcare—especially in rural areas. The Shapiro Administration calls it a “strategic advancement” in fighting addiction. Individuals seeking substance use treatment or recovery resources can be connected to local SUD resources by calling 1-800-662-HELP.
ROADS CLOSURES FOR THE FOURTH OF JULY IN PLACE TODAY
Expect major road closures in Williamsport today as Backyard Broadcasting along with the City of Williamsport and UPMC hosts its 30th annual Set the Night to Music Fourth of July celebration. William Street, Via Bella, and parts of Church and Pine streets will be shut down from noon to 11 p.m. The Susquehanna Riverwalk will close from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., and the Market Street Bridge will close from 8:30 to 10:15 p.m. Free shuttle service begins at 6 p.m. from city lots, with fireworks set to launch at 9:40. Security and parking restrictions remain in effect all evening.
WILLIAMSPORT MAN ACQUITTED OF RAPE
A Lycoming County man has been acquitted of rape. According to North Central PA dot com, 22-year-old Nicholas Peterson was found not guilty of sexually assaulting a then-17-year-old girl who claimed he provided her alcohol and committed the assault while she was unconscious at his Scott Street home. The teen initially testified that Peterson strangled her, but during cross-examination at trial, court records indicate that her story changed. Peterson’s had originally been charged with five felony counts and six misdemeanor charges for the alleged assault.
NEW CHARGES FOR MAN WHO SHOT BROTHER WITH PELLET GUN
New charges have been filed against Lycoming County Prison inmate Gage Michael Murray, already jailed for allegedly shooting two juveniles—including his brother—with a pellet gun. According to the Sun Gazette, the 18-year-old, held without bail since June 11, now faces additional charges of theft, receiving stolen property, and disorderly conduct. Police say Murray stole snacks from a vending machine at the Squeaky Kleen Laundromat in Jersey Shore on June 8. He was arraigned on the new charges and is now being held on $15,000 additional bail.
NEW BRANDING FOR THE UNITED WAY
After more than a century of service, the Lycoming County United Way has a new name: United Way of North Central Pennsylvania. According to a press release, the rebrand reflects the organization’s growing impact across Lycoming, Tioga, and Sullivan counties. While the name is new, the mission remains the same—advancing youth opportunity, financial stability, and healthy communities. CEO Ron Frick says the change signals a renewed commitment to regional unity. The group continues to operate from its Williamsport office and is ready to launch a new outreach campaign – “United is The Way.”
