LOYALSOCK TOWNSHIP TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO DRUG BUST
A traffic stop for speeding led police to a major drug and theft bust in Loyalsock Township. According to North Central PA dot com, State police say 69-year-old Cindy Lee Tisi of Freeland appeared impaired and nervous during the stop on June 13th. After obtaining a search warrant, police found meth, LSD, mushrooms, drug paraphernalia, and four stolen credit cards in the vehicle. Tisi now faces multiple felony charges, including drug possession with intent to deliver and theft. She is free on $35,000 unsecured bail and has a court hearing on July 7th.
PASSENGER ATTEMPTS ASSAULT ON RIDE-SHARE DRIVER
A Selinsgrove man was arrested after allegedly robbing a ride-share driver by using a screwdriver as a weapon. According to the Sun Gazette, borough police say 40-year-old Yves Monelle Jr. was picked up around 10:45 p.m. on June 13, then pulled a screwdriver from the glovebox and demanded the driver stop on Hastings Street. Monelle allegedly grabbed a handful of cash from the center console before the driver escaped and called 911. Monelle was arrested at the scene and arraigned on multiple charges, including felony robbery. He is in Lycoming County Prison on $40,000 bail.
HUGHESVILLE BOROUGH REJECTS HOUSING DEVELOPMENT PROPOSAL
Hughesville Borough Council rejected a proposed Memorandum of Understanding for a major housing development, citing ongoing concerns over storm water runoff and traffic. According to the Sun Gazette, the Kim Development plan calls for 124 homes on a 68-acre site, mostly in Wolf Township. Borough residents and officials raised questions about drainage, increased traffic, and infrastructure strain. Though officials said borough and township storm water rules are similar, issues around zoning authority and county involvement remain unclear. Specific concerns were also raised about the impact of traffic around Randy and Cardinal Drives.
JV BROWN LIBRARY PARTNERING WITH LITTLE LEAGUE MUSEUM
The James V. Brown Library is teaming up with the World of Little League Museum to offer free Sunday tours this summer. According to Little league officials June 29 through August 3, anyone with a JVB Library card can visit the museum on ROUte 15 in South Williamsport for free admission Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with self-paced tours lasting up to 90 minutes. CAR CRASH INTO MOUNT CARMEL CAR WASH
A car crash caused major damage to a car wash in Mount Carmel Township Tuesday morning. According to the News Item, police say an elderly Kulpmont woman driving a gray Kia Sportage struck the brick wall at the entrance of The Washery System’s automatic stall on Route 61. The driver had trouble with the payment machine and accidentally hit the corner of the entryway while backing up. No injuries were reported, but the car wash suffered heavy structural damage and is temporarily closed. Fire crews and police were on the scene Tuesday morning until about 10am.
WOMAN ARRESTED FOR ASSAULTING BAR PATRONS WITH POOL BALLS
A woman threw pool balls at bar patrons during a late-night disturbance at the K-Bar in Williamsport. According to North Central PA dot com, police say 58-year-old Barbara Bankes of Montgomery was intoxicated and became aggressive after being cut off around 11pm on June 14th. Witnesses say she refused to leave the bar, pushed another customer, and was punched to the ground by a patron, after which she allegedly began throwing pool balls into the crowd. Bankes was taken into custody and is being held on $5,000 bail, facing charges of simple assault and criminal mischief.
SOME ICE DETAINEES TO BE HOUSED IN LEWISBURG
Federal immigration detainees will soon be housed at FCI Lewisburg in Union County, according to corrections union president Matthew Barth. ICE officials recently toured the facility, which has available space following its transition from a maximum to medium-security prison. Barth says staff are prepared to safely separate detainees from other inmates and handle the challenge, despite ongoing staffing shortages. Lewisburg is now one of eight federal facilities nationwide approved to hold undocumented immigrants under ICE custody. The Bureau of Prisons has not released further details.
