CITY MAN CHARGED FOR INTENTIONALLY KILLING DEER WITH TRUCK
A Williamsport man faces multiple charges after allegedly using his pickup truck to intentionally run down and kill a deer early on March 8. According to the Sun Gazette, the State Game Warden said 19-year-old Mark Edward Kimble Jr. of Schoolhouse Road pursued two whitetail deer in the 500 block of Arch Street, intentionally striking one causing its death. Kimble has been charged with unlawful killing of big game, unlawful use of lights while hunting, and four summary violations. This incident marks his second or third violation of unlawful killing or taking of big game in a seven-year period. Kimble was arraigned, waiving his preliminary hearing and imprisoned in lieu of $50,000 bail.
MANY PENNSYLVANIA CITIES HOLD “NO KINGS” rally
A rally protesting the Trump administration’s policies and actions brought about 400 people to downtown Williamsport Saturday as part of the nationwide “No Kings” protests. According to the Sun Gazette, there were no reported arrests or violence, along Market Street . There were also protests held in downtown Lewisburg on Market Street outside the Federal Post Office with rallies reported in Bloomsburg, Scranton, Harrisburg, Lancaster, Saint Clair, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and other areas.The nationwide protests were held at the same time as a military parade in Washington DC celebrating the Army’s 250th and President Trump’s 79th birthday.
PORTION OF I-180 COULD BE NAMED FOR LOCAL LEADER
Senator Gene Yaw of Lycoming County has announced plans to introduce legislation naming a section of Interstate 180 as the “Kenneth C. Larson Jr. Memorial Highway.” The proposed tribute honors Larson’s decades-long contributions to regional infrastructure, including his leadership at PennDOT and as CEO of the Larson Design Group. Larson played a key role in projects like Route 15 and I-180. Yaw’s office indicated that the bill will be presented alongside other similar proposals in the near future.
JUNETEENTH EVENTS THIS WEEK IN WILLIAMSPORT
Williamsport is honoring Juneteenth with a weekend of events dubbed Harboring Hope. According to the Sun gazette, Thursday kicks off with a community cookout at Memorial Park at noon . Friday at 7 p.m., a Freedom Walk will proceed from Freedom Road to Brandon Park, culminating in a free movie screening at the bandshell. A trolley will be available to transport walkers back to Freedom Road. After the YWCA Race Against Racism 5k on Saturday morning live music and festival atmosphere will start at 10 a.m.
MIDDLEBURG MOTHER CHARGED WITH CHILD ENDANGERMENT
A 32-year-old woman faces felony child endangerment charges after her 3-year-old daughter was found walking into traffic in downtown Middleburg on June 4th . According to the Daily Item, police say Adrienne Martin was cooking breakfast that morning when the child left the house unnoticed. Witnesses saw the girl at the busy East Market and Main intersection, visibly frightened by a turning tractor-trailer. Police report a prior incident where Martin appeared inattentive to her child. Polcie charged Martin with felony child endangerment and misdemeanor reckless endangerment.
ELYSBURG WOMAN FACING THEFT CHARGES
A woman from Elysburg faces felony theft charges after allegedly stealing over $200,000 from SOS Metals Inc. in Mount Carmel between April and October 2024. According to the News Item, 27 year old Danyel Cambrea Balonis, of 127 S. Maple St., was charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property and was arraigned Thursday and was released on $100,000 unsecured bail. Balonis was confronted by the owners of SOS Metals about the theft in early April. She claims she was extorted by an unidentified male, but police found no evidence to support this. The investigation continues.
NUTRITION AND COOKING CLASSES WITH GEISINGER THIS SUMMER
Geisinger is offering free culinary medicine classes that blend cooking skills with nutrition science. These classes are available both in-person at Geisinger’s teaching kitchen in Selinsgrove and online. In-person sessions are scheduled in July at Geisinger Susquehanna Valley Mall with virtual classes available and additional classes planned for August and September. The program follows an evidence-based approach to health that incorporates food and cooking with nutrition education and is led by a registered dietitian nutritionist. LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL WEEK NAMED IN PA
The Pennsylvania House of Representatives has officially designated August 17–23, 2025, as “Little League World Series Week.” State Representative Jamie Flick of Lycoming and Union counties sponsored the resolution, which passed with 201 votes in favor and one against. The resolution was supported by local officials, including South Williamsport Mayor Marlin Angelo and Williamsport Mayor Derek Slaughter, who noted the event’s positive impact on the community and economy. The Little League World Series draws tens of thousands of visitors from around the world to Williamsport each year.
