WOMAN’S BODY FOUND SUNDAY IN SUSQUEHANNA
A woman’s body was discovered in the Susquehanna River near Danville, on Sunday morning. According to the Daily Item, the Montour County Coroner’s Office reported that the body was found around 10:30 a.m. near the Danville Access and Boat Ramp in Mahoning Township. The woman is described as approximately 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing between 150 and 170 pounds, with multiple tattoos on her arms and legs. Her identity remains unknown. The Montour County Coroner’s Office and Mahoning Township Police are investigating the case. TEEN ASSAULTED IN UNITYVILLE
SA 15-year-old boy was allegedly assaulted by 37-year-old Neil Edward Yarish Jr. in Unityville. According to the Sun Gazette, after a brief altercation, Yarish reportedly backed his vehicle into the teen twice, causing injuries to his wrist and knee. Yarish then returned to the scene, allegedly slapping a second victim and striking the first again, causing a minor abrasion. He faces charges of endangering the welfare of children, simple assault, and harassment. Bail was set at $30,000.
UNCLAIMED PROPERTY NETS PROFIT FOR PA
Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity announced that the state’s recent spring unclaimed property auction raised over $468,000. High-value items included a 14K yellow gold chain sold for $7,400, a 14K gold Knights Templar medal for $5,800, and a 22K yellow gold bangle bracelet for $4,600. The Treasury expects to receive over 402 thousand dollars after auctioneer Pook & Pook’s commission. The Treasury continues to search for owners of unclaimed property, including military decorations, which are never auctioned. BUTTERFLY RELEASE IN LOYALSOCK TOWNSHIP
UPMC Family Hospice is hosting its fourth annual butterfly release on Sunday, June 8, at Callie’s Garden in James Short Park, Williamsport. The event begins at noon, with the butterfly release at 2 p.m., symbolizing healing and remembrance. Activities include live music, therapy dog visits, a drum circle, art therapy, and children’s crafts, all available until 3 p.m. Food and beverages will be provided, and the event will proceed rain or shine. WILLIAMSPORT MAN ARRESTED FOR SELLING COCAINE
A 64-year-old Williamsport man was arrested in March for allegedly selling cocaine to a confidential informant over several months. According to North Central PA dot com, Andrew William Collins is accused selling drugs between December 2024 and March 2025, totaling over 10 grams of cocaine. He was apprehended exiting an apartment on Lycoming Street and told police he was retrieving the drugs for the informant. Collins faces charges of possession with intent to deliver and criminal use of a communication facility. He is currently free on $15,000 unsecured bail and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on June 10.
MAN FLEES POLICE, FACES DRUG CHARGES
A Williamsport man is facing multiple charges following a high-speed chase and a drug-related arrest. According to North Central PA dot com, 20-year-old Kyle Alexander Grugan led police on a pursuit through Old Lycoming Township April 3, disregarding traffic laws and driving without headlights. The chase ended when Grugan abandoned his vehicle and fled into a nearby home on Grand Street. Surveillance footage and a search warrant led officers to locate Grugan and over 400 grams of marijuana, exceeding the legal limit for medical use in Pennsylvania. Grugan faces charges including felony fleeing police, recklessly endangering another person, possession with intent to deliver, and more. He is free on $25,000 unsecured bail with a preliminary hearing June 10th.
PA COULD BAN SINGLE USE PLASTIC BAGS
Pennsylvania is moving closer to joining the growing list of states banning single-use plastic bags. Legislation introduced in Harrisburg would prohibit retailers from providing plastic bags at checkout. And also include an educational campaign through the Department of Community and Economic Development. Currently, 40 municipalities in Pennsylvania have enacted similar bans, eliminating an estimated 950 million single-use plastic bags annually—equivalent to over 5,200 tons of waste. The legislation is still under consideration, however it reflects a growing momentum toward reducing plastic waste in the state.

According to the Daily Item, the Center for Dairy Excellence has developed a “help wanted” online page. The resource provides an outlet for farmers to advertise their job openings.
