MAN SHOT IN POLICE EXCHANGE IDENTIFIED
A Williamsport man has been identified as the motorist who led state police on a high-speed pursuit Saturday evening that spanned two counties. According to the SUN Gazette, police say 36 year old Jordan J. Lantz, was clocked driving 83 mph in a 55 mph zone on Route 15 in Union County. He then continued west on Interstate 80, reaching speeds over 100 mph before his truck was disabled in Clinton County. Police deployed deadly force options, resulting in Lantz being shot in the leg and transported to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. He faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault by vehicle, fleeing an officer, and reckless driving. Lantz’s license had been suspended due to a prior DUI conviction.
HUGHESVILLE MAN ARRESTED FOR THREATENING FATHER’S GIRLFRIEND
A Hughesville man is facing multiple charges, including terroristic threats, after allegedly threatening to harm his father-in-law’s girlfriend during a hospital visit. According to the Sun Gazette, police say 66 year old Keith Lee Snyder, reportedly told a nurse at UPMC Muncy that he wanted to kill the woman, who had previously had him arrested for harassment. Snyder later told police he didn’t want to physically harm her but intended to harm her mentally and financially. He was arraigned on charges of simple assault and harassment and is being held on $30,000 bail
HEAD START GETS DONATION FROM MEMBER’S 1ST
Members 1st Federal Credit Union has donated $7,500 to Keystone Human Services’ Head Start program as part of its 75th anniversary celebration. According to a press release, the donation was selected by Members 1st members through a voting initiative supporting local nonprofits. Keystone’s Head Start program offers early childhood education, health, and family support services to low-income families in Central Pennsylvania. The funds will enhance programming and expand access to critical services for children in need. This contribution is part of Members 1st’s ongoing efforts to invest in community-driven initiatives throughout the year.
ATV TRAIL OPEN FOR THE SEASON
The Northcentral Regional ATV Trail is back open for the season. According to North Central pa dot com, the trail spans over 600 miles across Clinton, Lycoming, Potter, and Tioga counties, and reopened on May 23 and will remain open through September 28. Riders are reminded to watch for marked routes and obtain a permit—$40 for in-state and $60 for out-of-state vehicles, available at local state forest offices. STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE VANDALISM NEAR ALLENWOOD
A Gregg Township couple who own S&S Farms Country Store near Allenwood discovered vandalism to their property Sunday including a rock-shattered glass window and damage to their home’s siding. According to WNEP, police say 30 chickens were also missing. The family say they have lived on the farm for 25 years, and suspect the culprit may be someone familiar with the property. Milton Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the incident, and anyone with information is urged to contact them at (570) 524-2662.
PROCESS APPROVED BY CITY COUNCIL TO PAY BACK FTA
The City of Williamsport has approved a resolution to pay $1.4 million to the Federal Transit Administration for misused grants under former finance director William E. Nichols Jr. . According to the Sun Gazette, the city will make monthly installments of $35,000 from its emergency fund, starting April 15. Nichols, who pleaded guilty to felony theft and tampering with records, misappropriated funds intended for public transit projects. Mayor Derek Slaughter emphasized that the repayment does not imply city wrongdoing, noting the city’s cooperation with investigations and audits. The city is working with Public Financial Management Group to address financial challenges and improve fiscal transparency.
NEW PARK RANGERS AND MANAGERS GRADUATE FROM DCNR ACADEMY
Twenty-seven new rangers and park managers recently graduated from Pennsylvania’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) trainee academy. The ceremony took place at Little Buffalo State Park in Perry County. The graduates will oversee state parks across the Commonwealth, ensuring visitor safety and promoting environmental education. Splash Cove’s grand opening at Memorial Park in Williamsport is delayed due to unseasonably cool and rainy weather. According to the Sun Gazette, despite the late start, City Recreation Coordinator Sean Walker says a they are anticipating a busy season ahead and confirmed the pool is now scheduled to open Monday, June 9. He said water testing delays also contributed to the postponement – but the pool water has now passed all tests. They are seeking additional lifeguards and front desk cashiers.
