SHAMOKIN MAN RESISTS ARREST AND DISARMS OFFICER
A man who disarmed a police officer in Shamokin was charged with a felony as well as several misdemeanors after he was reported to be trespassing at a store at in the 100 block of West Independence Street last Wednesday and was taken into custody. According to the News Item, 32 year old Joseph Wilson was the suspect who was being sought by police for loitering near the Subway and Puff’s Discount store. Once officers located Wilson, they attempted to take him into custody but he resisted arrest and took a stun-gun from the arresting officer’s hand. He also attempted to bite one officer who was on the scene and kicked another when he was taken to the cruiser. Wilson has been arraigned and jailed in lieu of 25 thousand dollars bail.
PHILADELPHIA MAN ARRESTED FOR FORGERY
A man from Philadelphia is in custody after authorities discovered that he stole a check from a local business and wrote it out to himself. According to the Sun Gazette, state police say that 23 year old Christopher Graham took the check from TW Mahaffey Excavating in Anthony Township and wrote it out for over eight thousand dollars in January of 2024. Graham was recently arraigned in Lycoming County for forgery and receiving stolen property he is in jail in lieu of 20 thousand dollars bail.
WEST PHARMACSUTICALS TO HIRE 100 EMPLOYEES
A local Pharmaceutical company is seeking to hire up to 100 new employees to fill positions in Williamsport. According to North Central PA dot com, West Pharmaceutical Services Inc says the hires will support a recent contract manufacturing capacity expansion for the increased drug delivery needs of chronic disease treatments — such as diabetes and obesity. Officials from West say the 24 hour operation has been an integral part of the Williamsport business landscape for 40 years and will continue to contribute to patient health around the world. Hiring is expected to continue through the first quarter of 2026.
NEW STATE TROOPERS SWORN IN
Seventy Four new state troopers were welcomed at the 172nd PSP Cadet graduation last Friday in Lancaster County. According to North Central PA dot com, this class is the second to graduate from the academy without a college credit requirement. Governor Shapiro’s 2025-26 budget proposal is poised to sustainably fund the state police and includes $16 million to create four more new cadet classes. WOMAN FROM SHUNK RANTS ABOUT JD VANCE
A case against a 45 year old woman from Shunk who faces DUI, drug possession and disorderly conduct charges from an incident on April 25th has been held for trial. According to North Central PA dot com, state police at Laporte say Brandy Lynn Vroman was the subject of a welfare check that day by state police, allegedly fleeing her home early in the evening after a domestic incident. When she returned to the home around 10:45pm police were called as Vroman was allegedly yelling, screaming, and trying to enter the residence where the home owner was locked in. When police arrived the woman allegedly was disturbed, ranting about needing to speak with Vice President JD Vance and other random comments. Police took the woman into custody when she would not comply with police orders. Her preliminary hearing was May 14th and she posted 15 thousand dollars bail.
THREE INJURED IN ONE CAR ACCIDENT
A one car accident Saturday on Shady Hill Road in Washington Township injured the 85 year old driver and two passengers, one of which was a nine year old boy. According to State police at Montoursville, 85 year old George Myers lost control of his 2014 Chrysler Town and Country minivan and crashed into a tree after he was unable to depress the brake pedal while traveling down a hill. 57 year old Sylvia Miller of Mill Hall also sustained injuries. All three victims were transported to the hospital for treatment. Myers is facing charges for speeding and not having the child properly restrained in the car.
PENN COLLEGE RECEIVES NEW CONVEYOR SYSTEM
A donated 9-foot incline full-scale conveyance system is in use at Penn College thanks to Dyco Inc., a Bloomsburg-based company that specializes in designing, fabricating, and installing conveyor systems. According to PCT, the 71,500 dollar Redline conveyor system was installed at Penn College’s mechatronics lab by over a dozen students and volunteers who helped the Dyco technician for two days of the installation. Penn College offers a bachelor’s degree in automation engineering technology which integrates electrical, mechanical, and computer engineering.
STATE ROADS IN NORTHERN TIER TO BE USED FOR ATV AND UTVS
A new PennDOT policy may allow ATVs and UTVs on portions of state highways in the Commonwealth. PA lawmakers, including Clint Owlet of Tioga County, have been vocal advocates for the ATV expansion allowing state highways to serve as connector roads between trailheads. PennDOT says they will review proposals by municipalities, then after an agreement, they can enact a resolution for use of the road. A 2020 law created the pilot program in the Northern Tier that required the DCNR to evaluate certain forest districts for roads and trails to provide local access or serve as a trail complex for ATV use.

NASCAR NEWS
* The NASCAR Hall of Fame announced yesterday that they will induct Kurt Busch, Harry Gant and Ray Hendrick in the Class of 2026.
* Busch and Gant were selected from the Modern Era Ballot, each garnering 61% of the vote.
* Hendrick, who died in 1990, was voted in on the Pioneer Ballot with 31% of the votes
* The Class of 2026 will be inducted on Jan. 23 in Charlotte.
