ARMED ROBBER TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AFTER BEING DISARMED BY VICTIM
A Williamsport man is in custody after he used a firearm when he attempted to rob a man walking on East Third Street Saturday night. According to Williamsport Bureau of Police, 41 year old Anthony Olgesby, Jr. was disarmed by his victim who then fought with him and held him on the ground until officers arrived on the scene after being called for shots fired. Police said they separated the two men, detained Olgeslby, and discovered a 9mm semi-automatic handgun near the scene. It was later identified it as a stolen firearm from the Philadelphia area. The nearby Cellblock was on lockdown for about 10 minutes while police investigated . Olgesby was taken into custody and transported to UPMC Williamsport with minor injuries and was then charged with criminal attempted robbery, aggravated assault, person not to possess a firearm and more. He was jailed in lieu of 75 thousand dollars bail.
ELYSBURG MAN ARRESTED FOR STRANGULATION
A man from Elysburg is in custody after police say he strangled a woman and left her unconscious last Thursday in Ralpho Township. According to state police, 35-year-old Matthew Snyder committed the domestic assault, choking a 36 year old woman multiple times on Center Street. Police say Snyder was arrested and charged with strangulation, aggravated assault, simple assault, disorderly conduct, and terroristic threats.
MONTOUR NIGHT OUT SCHEDULED FOR JUNE IN DANVILLE
There will be a “Montour Night Out” night in June and community members are invited to come and spend time with local law enforcement from police departments, fire departments, SWAT, and EMS services. According to North Central PA dot com, the evening follows the National Night Out initiative and allow the attendees to get a close-up look at emergency vehicles, and mingle with first responders and other personnel. “Montour Night Out” is June 11th at Danville Middle School from 5 till 7pm and will have live demonstrations, free food and educational activities and giveaways. No registration is required.
UNITED WAY SEEKING VOLUNTEERS FOR DAY OF ACTION
The Annual Day of Action with the Lycoming County United Way is coming up this summer and organizers are looking for volunteers to be a part of it. According to the Sun Gazette, registration for volunteers and non-profits that are looking for help on projects is open now. The Day of Action is a chance for neighbors to help neighbors through hands-on service projects like painting, yard work or other projects. MAN ON TRIAL TODAY FOR FATAL STABBING
The Montandon man who police say fatally stabbed 28-year-old Kyle Christensen of Northumberland County in February 2024 is in court today after the jury was seated in the case yesterday. According to the Daily Item, Preston Robert Bennett II is on trial for felony criminal homicide after the stabbing occurred in West Chillisquaque Township over a year ago. Prosecutors say Bennet threatened Christensen, who was an ex of his current girlfriend, before he later stabbed him three times in the abdomen causing serious injuries that required him to be airlifted to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Christensen later died from the injuries. The trial is set to begin at 9am today.
MAN FROM MILLMONT CHARGED WITH TERRORISTIC THREATS
A man from Millmont was charged April 27th for hitting a victim’s mailbox with his car near Weikert Road in Hartley Township earlier in the day and then threatening him to fight. According to North Central PA dot com, state police at Milton responded to a 911 call hang up at the same address and found that 29 year old Austin Robert Liddington was outside the home yelling toward the victim saying he had a knife. The victim and his family told police they were afraid for their lives. Liddington was charged with felony intimidating a witness and misdemeanor terroristic threats and he posted 10% of 15 thousand dollars bail.
WOMAN WHO SOLD METH SENTENCED IN BRADFORD COUNTY
A woman who sold a large amount of meth to an undercover officer in two instances in Gillet in July of 2024 was found guilty by a jury in February and was recently sentenced to state prison. According to North Central PA dot com, police say 47 year old Bobbie Jo Cardona already had a serious criminal past including menacing, criminal trespass, criminal mischief, DUI, resisting arrest, and theft-related offenses. Cardona, of Elmira, NY, was sentenced to no less than 6 years to a maximum of 16 years in state prison following her conviction in Bradford County.
CLEAN UP SATURDAY AT RB WINTER STATE PARK
This Saturday volunteers will be at R.B. Winter State Park for a clean-up day at the 695 acre park. According to the Friends of the park they need volunteers to pick up trash primarily around along Route 192 between McCall Dam Road and Stover Gap Road as well as around the park’s day-use area and around Halfway Lake, and they also need help stacking firewood in the firewood shed. Gloves, trash bags, and safety vests will be provided for volunteers who are asked to meet at the Environmental Learning Center at 9am within the Bald Eagle State Forest along Route 192 just 18 miles west of Lewisburg.
