POLICE RELEASE MORE DETAILS ABOUT HOTEL STABBING
Pennsylvania State Police have released more information about the circumstances surrounding the stabbing at the Liberty Lodge last weekend in Loyalsock Township. According to the Sun Gazette, police say they were called to the hotel for a welfare check Sunday on 46 year old Robert Bohart of Erin, New York and were investigating a possible stabbing of the man in the room next to him. Bohart indicated to police that the man in the room next door, who turned out to be 53 year old Shannon Bowes, was dead. Policed said that Bohart commented that Bowes was dead because he was talking like a pedophile. The Lycoming County Coroner was called to the scene after police discovered Bowes body in the room next door with the knife allegedly used in the stabbing on the scene. Bohart has been charged with criminal homicide, possession of an instrument of crime and abuse of corpse and has been denied bail.
DRIVER CHARGED AFTER HIGH SPEED CHASE
The driver who led Montoursville police on a four mile chase April 8th which ended in a crash where his 2017 Nissan Versa landed perpendicular against a barn, is now facing charges. According to the Sun Gazette, 20 year old Zachary Digan led police at a high rate of speed out of the Borough and then crashed on Quaker State Road in Fairfield Township. Police say Digan ran from the crash but they apprehended him a short time later. He faces felony fleeing, reckless endangerment, hit and run and other summary offenses. He posted 15 thousand dollars bail.
CRYPTOCURRENCY BILL PASSES IN PA HOUSE
A bill to regulate virtual currency which was introduced by PA lawmaker has passed in the House and will now head to the Senate for consideration. According to state Rep. Scott Conklin who is majority chairman of the House Commerce Committee, House Bill 881 would expand the state’s Money Transmission Licensing Law which would authorize the state to regulate cryptocurrency and ensure digital currencies are as safe and secure in transactions as those involving traditional forms of money.
BRIDGE WORK IN SUNBURY NEXT WEEK
There will be lane restrictions next week in Sunbury on Route 61 in both directions at the Veterans Memorial Bridge. According to PennDOT, they will be repairing and replacing centerline delineators on the bridge along with drill crews between 9am and 3pm, weather permitting. The left passing lane is expected to be closed when work is being performed.
RIVER RESCUE IN SELINSGROVE SUNDAY
Emergency crews in Selinsgrove rescued two people from the Susquehanna River near Fisher Ferry Sunday. According to media outlets, the individuals were reported stranded near Kinney Island while fishing on a raft. Crews were dispatched from Hoover’s Island Boat launch around 3:30pm. Dauntless Hook and Ladder Company performed the rescue and Hummel’s Wharf Fire Company was also on the scene. There were no injuries reported.
MOTHER NOW FACING ENDANGERMENT CHARGES
A mother is now facing felony endangering the welfare of a child charges this week after her daughter went to school in October and complained of pain and illness eventually admitting she had eaten one of her father’s prescription pills. According to North Central PA dot com, Oaklyn Elementary School officials called 911 and while at the hospital the girl tested positive for fentanyl. When called by school officials about her condition, they say the father, 29 year old Derick Allen Kuczynski, became agitated and suggested the girl was faking the illness. Her mother, 26 year old Dayanera Garcia told police and hospital officials that she and Kuczynski both had Suboxone prescriptions. The family’s apartment was searched and according to an affidavit, police found a host of dangerous drugs in and around the home. The parents have now both been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, and Kuczynski faces additional drug charges.
DONAVILLE COMMUNITY POOL REOPENS
After almost a month of construction, the improved Danville Area Community Center swimming pool reopened yesterday. According to the Daily Item, the 200 thousand dollars in upgrades include a new pool filter and pump, re-grouting of the pool, and electrical upgrades, as well as a new, ultraviolet disinfection system and more. 194 thousand gallons of water were drained from the pool for the work to be completed.
NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER THURSDAY
Churches in Lycoming County including Lycoming Centre Presbyterian Church along with Williamsport Mayor Derek Slaughter are encouraging residents to join in a National Day of Prayer the evening of May 1st at Way’s Garden in Williamsport. The National Day of Prayer began in 1952 and is held the first Thursday of May it was formally recognized locally by Mayor Slaughter through a Mayoral Proclamation. Those interested in participating in the outdoor event can gather at the corner of 4th and Maynard Street with lawn chairs or blankets to sit upon. The event will feature group prayer, inspirational music, and messages from local leaders.
