STUDENT KILLED IN SHOOTING SATURDAY IDENTIFIED

The Lycoming County Coroner has announced the name of the Williamsport High School student killed in a shooting along East Third Street Saturday night.  According to Charles Kiesling Jr, 15 year old Ahmeen Palmer died from multiple gunshot wounds   in the emergency room at UPMC Williamsport at 8:10pm.  State police continue the investigation into the fatal shooting and also are investigating a second shooting that occurred Sunday night on Hazel Drive in Loyalsock Township at about 10:30pm.  NO injuries were reported in that incident.  The suspects from Saturday’s incident fled on foot and in vehicles and are still at large. There is a GoFundMe account set up by Ahmeen Palmer’s aunt, to offset funeral costs for the family.

FATAL MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT

A man from Loyalsock Township was killed in a motorcycle accident yesterday afternoon.  According ot the Sun Gazette, Patrick Warren lost control of his motorcycle along Route 87 in Forks Township Monday at about 2:30pm.  Police say he hit a guardrail and crashed while heading southbound.  The Sullivan County Coroner  says Warren, who was wearing a helmet, was rushed by ambulance to the Life Flight landing pad, where he succumbed to his injuries.  State Police at Laporte are handling the investigation into the crash.

WOMAN CHARGED FOR FORGERY

A woman from Northumberland allegedly forged documents to gain access to over 130 thousand dollars from a local non-profit organization.  Police completed an investigation implicating 54 year old Lisa Shosh.  According to the Daily Item, Shosh was arraigned on 232 criminal counts for embezzling the funds from The Arc Susquehanna Valley, a community-based organization that supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. 

BRANDON PARK BAND SHELL TO BE UPGRADED

Upgrades are coming to the Dr. Kenneth Cooper Bandshell at Brandon Park this spring and summer. The Williamsport City Council approved the Lundy Construction Contract last May for a price of just under $568,000. The work is set to begin when the weather breaks and is said to include structural improvements, upgrades to the bathrooms and more. The bandshell was dedicated in 1914, but dedicated in 2008 to honor Dr. Kenneth L. Cooper, a physician who served on the Brandon Park Commission since 1972 and helped to form the Shade Tree Commission in 1993.

FOUR PEOPLE NOW IMPLICATED IN WILLIAMSPORT SHOOTING

There is a second man and two accomplices who have been implicated along with Bailey Sr, in the double homicide that occurred on January 11th in Williamsport.  According to the Sun Gazette, Troy Bennett Bailey Sr. and his roommate, Muhammad Davis were both charged yesterday for their involvement in the murders of Alicia Seese, and Ronald Dailey Jr. who were kidnapped and shot.  Randall Johnson was taken into custody as a suspect and another woman, Sandy Camille Perez, was also charged as an accomplice for allegedly taking the murder weapon and discarding it.  Police say the night of the homicide, surveillance video at about 10pm shows Dailey and Seese being forced into Dailey’s vehicle that was later found along the 1700 block of Terrace Place with their bodies inside and near the vehicle.  Davis admitted to police his involvement in the shooting.  A press conference about the incident will take place today.

ROAD RAGE INCIDENT IN LEWIS TOWNSHIP

A Roaring Branch man is due to appear in court after a road rage incident January 10th along Route 14 in Lewis Township.  According to police, 75 year old Kenneth George Harvey denied hitting any vehicles when he was questioned about ramming three vehicles with his 2007 Dodge Ram pickup, later fleeing the scene and abandoning the truck.  Harvey was charged with simple assault, reckless endangerment, hit and run and more.  Police allege that Harvey reacted to a motorist who passed him when he was going below the speed limit by following and hitting her car, and pushing her while she applied the brakes.  Two other motorists who came along were also harassed and rammed by Harvey.  He has been sent a summons to appear in Lycoming County court.

SUNBURY LOOKING TO KEEP NEWEST OFFICERS

Sunbury is hoping to attract new police officers, and keep them around, too. According to the Daily Item, Sunbury police and city officials are looking to start an Act 120 reimbursement program. According to the Mayor, the city council is willing to help anyone, after they pass the hiring process, to pay for their police training. This may also include a small salary while they attend the training. The officers are then asked to sign a contract and remain employed in Sunbury for five years .

DAIRY SCHOLARSHIPS FOR STUDENTS

Scholarships for college students and high school seniors, pursuing a career in a dairy-related field are available in Pennsylvania.  According to the  Pennsylvania Dairymen’s Association and the Dairy Excellence Foundation they have formed a partnership and are offering twelve $3,000 Student Leader Scholarship scholarships for students who demonstrate a commitment to working in the dairy industry.  The scholarship application period continues through May 1st.  Get information at center for dairy excellence dot org.
