MAN CHARGED AFTER TAKING MONEY FROM INFORMANT

A Cogan Station man is free on 5 thousand dollars bail after he allegedly took money from an undercover informant for drugs and never returned with the drugs or money on July 26th.  According to the Sun Gazette, court records say 31 year old Zakary Allen Koch told the undercover officer he’d be back to meet in 90 minutes and took 360 dollars, but eluded them when they attempted to reach him. He was charged with theft and waived his preliminary hearing.

PLANS DISCLOSED FOR STEVENS PRIMARY BUILDING

Information about the plans for the Stevens Primary School building was announced this week at the City Council Public Works Committee meeting in Williamsport.  According to the Sun Gazette, the property previously owned by the Williamsport Area School District , including buildings and grounds at 1150 Louisa St., were sold to Moonrise Acquisitions LLC in 2022, who at the time did not disclose plans for the building.  Plans were disclosed this week during the public works meeting that the property will be conditional use, multi-family housing. The price for the Stevens building at the time of closing was 850 thousand dollars.

TAYLOR SWIFT CONCERT MOVIE COMES TO TOWN

The Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Concert film will be screened in 8,500 theaters in 100 countries beginning on Friday, including AMC theaters in Williamsport, Selinsgrove and Bloomsburg with at least four showings a day on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.  According to Penn Live, the film spans Taylor Swift’s 17-year award winning career . The Eras tour is the highest-grossing concert film in history, earning $100 million in global ticket advance sales sold. The runtime is 2 hours and 48 minutes.

PRESERVATION WILLIAMSPORT HOSTS FALL EVENT

A Halloween Themed event to raise funds to protect and restore Williamsport’s prominent architectural heritage is coming up next Friday October  20th.  According to Preservation Williamsport, their Boo from the Front Porch night will bring the community together for a night filled with fun and celebration at Park Place, 800 W. 4th St., Williamsport, where they will showcase the grand porches and historic ballroom of the venue while fostering community spirit during the Halloween season.  Local restaurants and sponsors will provide the food, drink and prizes.  For tickets or information, go to PreservationWilliamsport.com

DRUG MIDDLEMAN ARRESTED IN WILLIAMSPORT

A Williamsport man was arrested after a South Williamsport woman bought cocaine from him on June 21st who was a middleman to an undercover police officer. According to North Central PA dot com, 53 year old Laurona Walker of South Williamsport arranged with Tyrone Singleton to pick up the drug and was taken to a Sheridan street address for the transaction in an undercover vehicle.  Walker gave only some of the drugs to the undercover officer when she returned to the car, and was later questioned by police at her home and arrested for possession with intent to deliver.  Singleton was charged with five counts of possession and posted $45,000 monetary bail through a bondsman last week, and was released.

IDENTITY THEFT IN RICHMOND TOWNSHIP

A victim in Richmond Township had his identity stolen after a suspect duplicated his credit card and stole fuel.  According to North Central PA dot com, State Police at Mansfield say a 70 year old man told police the person used his information to pump 125 dollars of diesel fuel in Chester County August 17th.  If you know of any information about the identity theft, call State police in Mansfield at 570-662-2151.

SEWER MAIN WORK NEXT WEEK IN WATSONTOWN

A portion of Eighth Street will be closed next week in Watsontown Borough, in Northumberland County, for a sewer main repair. According to PennDOT, next Wednesday and Thursday, Eighth will be closed at the intersection with Broad Street while the Milton Regional Sewer Authority performs sewer main repairs. A detour using Matthew Street and Ninth Street will be in place while work is being performed between the hours of 6:30 AM and 5:00 PM, weather permitting.

FIRE PREVENTION EVENT IN WHITE DEER

There will be a fire prevention and safety event this Saturday at White Deer Community Park at 992 White Deer Pike from 10 til 1.  The event which is a fundraiser for upcoming park projects, including new playground equipment, will have demonstrations and hands-on activities including fire hoses to use and tours of fire trucks, ambulances, police cars and rescue vehicles.  A Life Flight Landing is scheduled for 11am and a K9 demonstration at noon.  There will be food trucks and safety and security products for sale.
