TRUCK ROLLOVER CLOSED I-80
There was a tractor trailer rollover yesterday in Northumberland County that closed parts of eastbound I-80. According to a press release from PennDOT, the accident occurred a little after 1:30pm Tuesday closing both lanes with heavy traffic on detour routes 147 and 254. The right lane was re-opened a little after 3pm but the left passing lane remained closed for several hours while crews cleaned up the rollover crash that occurred between mile marker 212A, the Milton Exit and mile marker 215 the Limestoneville Exit.
CONTRACTOR PLEADS GUILTY
A Williamsport contractor, who scammed at least seven clients when he took deposits for installation of elevators and didn’t deliver the work, has pleaded guilty to theft by unlawful taking in all the cases. According to the Sun Gazette, the state Attorney General showed that Michael Bloom took advantage of elderly clients and took over 100 thousand dollars in deposit money from the victims and did little or no work at all. NEW ROOF APPROVED FOR SALLADASBURG SCHOOL BUILDING
As the Jersey Shore Area School Board continues talks on the fate of Salladasburg Elementary School building, the board did decide in a 5-3 vote to replace its roof at Monday night’s meeting. According to the Sun Gazette, there was some public comment attempting to encourage the board to wait on the 500 thousand dollar investment into replacing the roof of a building that could potentially be sold, but those in favor of the replacement said the new roof will increase the value of the property upon the sale of it with the cost of the project covered by capital project funds.
BLACK BEAR HARVEST NUMBERS FOR 2022
The final numbers on the black bear harvest in Pennsylvania in 2022 are in and it was lucrative for local hunters as the harvest was spread out more evenly over four separate seasons; archery, muzzleloader, general and extended seasons. Over 203 thousand PA residents bought bear licenses in 2022 and Hunters took bears in 58 of the state’s 67 counties. Tioga County produced the most, giving up 187 bears last season. Lycoming County ranked second with 152, followed by Bradford and Luzerne counties with 126 each, Centre County had 122, and Clinton County had 113.
WILLIAMSPORT MAN FACES FELONY STRANGULATION CHARGES
A Williamsport man is facing two felony counts of strangulation and assault charges after he allegedly shoved, choked and smothered his girlfriend the morning of February 2nd. According to North Central PA dot com, Keith Sherwood of Almond Street threatened the woman more after she called 911, and the two required city officers to separate them while they were responding to the original call. Sherwood was released from Custody last Thursday on 50- thousand dollars unsecured bail, and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing February 23rd in Lycoming County Court.
CSVT CONTRACTOR CUTS WATER LINE, EFFECTS SHAMOKIN
Water service was disrupted in Shamokin yesterday after a contractor for PennDOT cut the line while working on the southern section of the CSVT project. According to media outlets Shamokin mayor Joe McGranahan said there was a brief period of time in the borough where water pressure was low or non-existent and most service has been restored. The Rome Court section of Orchard Hill had interrupted service further into Tuesday night, and residents in that area will receive information if any restrictions will be in place for their water service.
ID COULD BE REQUIRED TO BUY AMMO
There is a bill being proposed in the Pennsylvania House that could require photo identification for the purchase of ammunition. According to WHTM, eleven Democratic members of the house have signed on to the memo that went out to members Friday to reinforce the current law that ammunition is not to be sold to minors. Currently, a seller has to reasonably believe the purchaser is over 18 or 21 depending on the style of ammo, but is not required to verify the age of the buyer. The proposed legislation is meant to maintain safety for minors without infringing on 2nd Amendment rights.
WORLD RENOWNED VIOLINIST COMING TO SU
Susquehanna University will host world renowned violinist Itzhak Perlman with pianist Rohan De Silva April 19th at 8pm in their Weber Chapel Auditorium. According to a press release from the university, the event is free and open to the public, but tickets, available through the university website, are required but limited to four per customer. https://susqu.universitytickets.com/. The evening’s program, “Itzhak Perlman in Recital,” is made possible by the Stella Freeman Weis Cultural Endowment. Perlman has earned 16 Grammys, four Emmys, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a Genesis Prize.
