Friday the PIAA’s board of directors voted that they were going to move ahead with high school sports. According to Pennlive, even though Governor Wolf’s recommendation was to hold off until 2021, the board concluded with a vote allowing the start of athletics. In a press release the board stated that all individuals involved in the athletic community have a role in the health and wellness of all participants as the go forward safely with the season.

A Williamsport man is in jail and facing charges after he threatened a man and his daughter on bicycles with a handgun while he was driving a car near them on August 16th.  According to the North Central PA dot com, State Troopers say Ryan J. Kranz, was witnessed first brandishing a handgun and then driving away at a high rate of speed on Russell Avenue near Sheridan Street.  Police later located Krantz at his home where neighbors say he was acting erratically and also attempting to fire the handgun which didn’t discharge.  Police said the weapon was an air pistol but found other firearms inside the home.  Krantz had a mental health evalulation at UPMC and was then booked for aggravated felony assault and other assault charges.

The PA Department of Health said there are 8 new cases of COVID-19 in Lycoming County bringing the county total to 479.  As of August 22nd there are 796 new positive cases reported but the data shows an 80 percent recovery rate so far of the current cases as 80 percent.  18 new deaths were reported for a statewide total of 7.576 since the pandemic began.

ESPN and Little League International announced an eight-year media rights extension – effective 2023 through 2030 – in which ESPN will produce and televise more live Little League events than ever as the exclusive global media rights holder of Little League Baseball and Little League Softball. ESPN platforms will exclusively carry more than 300 Little League live events annually, including games from every baseball and softball World Series tournament as part of the previously announced expansion of the event from 16 to 20 teams.

A 11 year old boy from Montoursville was admitted to the trauma unit at the Geisinger medical center in Danville Thursday due to the injuries he sustained when he was struck by a pickup truck. According to the Sun Gazette Loyalsock police say  the truck hit the boy on the 700 block of north Loyalsock Ave around 1:40 after he ran in front of it while it was entering a parking lot.  According to the boy’s father he in stable condition. Police did not release the identity of the victim.

There are suspected swastika-like designs that have been spray painted in Loyalsock Township which has begun an investigation by Pennsylvania State Police in Montoursville.  According to North Central PA dot com, several mailboxes were painted as well as areas of the roadway and was suspected to have taken place on August 20th.  If you have any information please call Montoursville state police

Voters in Lycoming County can expect Election Day to take place on Tuesday Nov. 3 with of the county’s voting precincts open for in-person voting. According to Forest Lehman Director of Elections and Registration in Lycoming County said that those interested casting an absentee or mail-in ballot, can apply online or at Lycoming County Voter Services, on W. Third St. in Williamsport.   But they should not expect to receive a ballot until either late September or early October – when they can then drop off ballots at the voter services office. Penn State has summarily suspended Pi Kappa Alpha at University Park for hosting a large social gathering on Aug. 22 in violation of Penn State’s expectations. Penn State’s monitors observed approximately 70 students at a party, including those who were not residents of the house. Penn State also has suspended those chapter executives who refused to allow monitors to check the premises. The University is proceeding with conduct investigations to determine next steps against the chapter and its’ members. Penn State required all members of the Pi Kappa Alpha house to be tested yesterday to determine if there’s been exposure to COVID-19 as well as  encouraging other students who may have attended to be tested as well.

The Cleveland Indians and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim will play in the 2021 edition of the Little League Classsic at Bowman Field.  According to officials at Little League the game is scheduled for Aug. 22 and will air nationally on ESPN. It will be the first appearance in Williamsport for both teams since the Classic began in 2017 with Mike Trout making an appearance here for the game. This year’s edition of the Classic, featuring the Red Sox and Orioles, was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

National bumped the Marlins 9-3, Orioles over the Red Sox 5-4, Tiger beat the Indians 7-4, Rays over the Blue Jays 5-4, Pirates over the Brewers 5-4, Twins beat the Royals 5-4, Cardinals beat the Reds 6-2, Cubs beat the White Sox 2-1, Padres over the Astros 5-3, Dodgers routed the Rockies 11-3, A’s beat the Angels 5-4, Giants over the Diamondbacks 6-1, Mariners beat the Rangers 4-1, Phillies over the Braves 5-4, Yankees and Mets were postponed

Celtics beat the 76ers 110-106 winning that series 4-nothing, Raptors beat the Nets 150 to 122 in Game 4  Toronto winning their series as well, in the West Mavericks over the Clippers 135 to 133 ub Game 4 their series tied up 2-2, and Jazz beat the Nuggets 129 to 127 in Game 4 with Utah leading the series 3-1

In the East  – Bruins beat Lightning 3-2 in Game 1, Boston leads, Golden Knights over the Canucks 5-nothing in the West game one of round 2, with Vegas leading.
The Islanders play the Flyers tonight at 7 PM for the East and Stars and Avalanche play game 2 at 9:45 PM Dallas leads that series 1-nothing

Saturday, Denny Hamlin got the checkered flag followed by Martin Truex, Jr., followed by Eric Almirola, Kevin Harvick and Chase Elliot.  Sunday Kevin Harvick came in first followed by Martin Truex, Jr., Jimmie Johnson, William Byron and Alex Bowman.
