TRIAL DELAYED FOR ALLEGED CHILD ABUSER
A Trevorton man is in custody in Northumberland County Jail after he was charged with aggravated assault when police say he beat a toddler who was found to have suffered a brain injury and multiple broken bones this month. 19 year old Jahrid Burgess allegedly assaulted 3 year old Arabella Parker who remains on life support at Geisinger Medical Center. According to the Daily Item, the Shamokin District Judge, John Gembic delayed the trial of Burgess for later this week after The Columbus Day holiday affected security measures at the courthouse. The Northumberland County DA said that if Parker dies, Burgess will face an open count of homicide immediately.
ALL CLEAR AFTER BOMB THREAT AT SCHOOL
Danville Police say Danville Area High School was evacuated after 12pm on Monday, then searched and cleared Monday afternoon for a bomb threat. A K-9 team searched the school and found no threat to other school buildings Authorities from Montour County told WKOK that they are investigating and have no suspects in custody at this time. Students were allowed to return to the school last night to retrieve their personal items left behind. Classes are on a normal schedule today.
RESOLUTIONS CAUSE CONCERN FOR OFFICERS
South Williamsport police officers addressed the South Williamsport borough Council last night citing their concerns about a resolution to transfer police department authority there from the mayor to the borough manager and to make Steven Cappelli the manager, the director of Public Safety. Six officers voiced their support of Police chief Carl Finnerty and stated their hopes that the current move would not remove him from his position. According to the Sun Gazette, the officers said the changes effect the checks and balances of the departments. The council then voted on the resolutions and both passed. The next South Williamsport Borough Council meeting is. Nov. 11.
WHITE HOUSE CHOOSES PITMAN FARM FOR HOILDAY TREE
A Northumberland County farm has gotten the nod that they will provide the Christmas Tree to be displayed in the Blue Room at the White House in Washington DC this year. The State Department of Agriculture said that the tree will be chosen this morning at Mahantongo Valley Farms in Pitman. According to the state, Pennsylvania ranks third in the nation for Christmas tree production.
MAN CHARGED WITH DUI FOR TWO INCIDENTS IN A ROW
A Southside man was in court this week facing more charges after a second DUI incident in less than 2 months. According to police, Stephen Tidwell crashed his motorcycle May 20th in a yard on East Second Avenue, and left the scene, going to his nearby home. A witness called police who found him injured and bleeding from the crash afterwhich he was transported to Williamsport Regional and arrested for DUI after his discharge. According to the Sun Gazette, on July 4th of this year, Tidwell, riding the same motorcycle he crashed in May, tried to cross the northbound lanes of the Market Street bridge while it was closed for the fireworks, and was arrested by police for DUI. Tidwell waived his preliminary hearing this week and is free on bail.
JERSEY SHORE SCHOOL CLOSURE VOTE ON HOLD AGAIN
Residents of the Jersey Shore community who came to the school board meeting Monday were unable to hear a vote about local schools closing there because the vote was pulled from the agenda. According to the Sun Gazette, two board members were absent and the board president pulled the item in order to have full participation when deciding on one of six options for closing or reconfiguring local schools. The next meeting is October 28th at the administration building on A&P Drive in Jersey Shore.

There will be another demonstration to teach Union County residents how to use the new machines this Wednesday from 8:30-11 a.m. at The Miller Center in Lewisburg, according to a news release from the League of Women Voters of the Lewisburg Area. A Display of the new voting machines in Lycoming county are on display at the Office of Voter Services, located on the first floor of 33 West Third Street in downtown Williamsport, Monday-Friday, 8:30-5:00.
2019 WORLD CHAMPIONS VISIT WHITE HOUSE
The champions from Williamsport’s 2019 Little League World series were honored with a trip to the white house last week. The Eastbank Little League from River Ridge, Louisiana as well as the championship softball team from Rowan County, North Carolina, visited the White House and met President Trump Friday afternoon. The Louisiana East Bank All-Stars are the first baseball team to win their State title.
WALLET THIEF BEING SOUGHT BY POLICE
A thief took a woman’s wallet from the Weis Market in Lewisburg earlier this month. State police in Milton say the suspect took the wallet from the ususpecting victim and used the card to purchase almost 1000 dollars worth of items at another store on Westbranch Highway.
