Lifland Skatepark Grand Opening DaySaturday September 1

The Board of Directors of Williamsport’s Lifland Skatepark are pleased to announce its Grand Opening Saturday, September 1 at 11:00 am.  Lifland Skatepark is located in Elm Park, at the 1700 block of West Fourth Street adjacent to the Original Little League baseball fields in Williamsport. Mayor Gabriel Campana will open the festivities with the announcement at 11:00 am, followed by speeches from skatepark spearheads Sally Lifland Butterfield and Lonnie Wilcox. This is to be followed by demonstrations from both skateboarding and BMX experts. Open skating for everyone will begin at noon. Live Music will also begin at noon with appearances by Maitland, Five Dollar Letdown, The Takeover, The Captives, Slave To The Kill and Blackwater.

Food, raffles, door prizes and more will also be available as we begin fundraising for Phase Two of the skatepark, the street area. There will be a special break during the day for beginners to get a hands-on lesson from the experts on some dos and don’ts for riding the park. All riders will be required to wear helmets and sign a waiver; riders under age 18 will need to have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian as this is a Ride At Your Own Risk facility.

Lifland Skatepark, LLC was created to fulfill a need in the community for a skatepark, providing more modern opportunities for area youth. Sally Lifland Butterfield donated much of the money to get this project off the ground in honor of her mother and father, Fay & Paul Lifland. Lonnie Wilcox, Project Manager, is excited to see the project finally a reality and hopes that doors of opportunity will open for our area youth because of facilities like these. It’s been one year since groundbreaking and phase one is finally complete. Lifland Skatepark is a community project completed mostly by volunteers and some terrific local people, businesses and contractors. This grand opening will be the first of many events at the park to help fund its future expansion and reoccurring insurance costs. Donations and gifts are tax deductible.

The Board of Directors of Lifland Skatepark LLC is composed of Lonnie Wilcox of Wilcox Graphic Innovation, Sally Lifland Butterfield, Thomas Gallup, Billy Wigo of Pretas Skateshop, and Christian Lovecchio.
